Dev Blog #16 - First week of release!

Welcome back for another Dev Blog, the first one since Monday’s game launch!

Today we’re covering the amazing time we had in the first days of the release, changes coming in the first updates, and we’re revealing the final winners of the community meme contest.

Release

Monday was a dream come true for us. With lots of people tuning in to Twitch to see the official release (VOD here) and going from Popular Upcoming Releases to New & Trending on Steam within a few hours, it far exceeded our expectations for our tiny indie game. Thanks so much for all your support!

Next Updates

While we’re trying our hardest to enjoy the moment with the great reception and all the new players finding out about Project Planet, it’s also time to look to the future. We already have two updates in development, one being a smaller update with mostly bug fixes and improvements, and one being a larger content update that will introduce the much anticipated Asteroid Impact disaster to the game!

The smaller update will be patch 1.0.2 and is expected to be released within the next week. Some of the changes included in this build are:

  • A new reconnect system for the master device, to prevent players from getting locked out of their game if the master device loses connection for a short amount of time.

  • A variety of balance changes.

  • Fix for a bug that would cause an AI Earth to always select the Virus disaster.

  • Multiple fixes to small bugs and game stoppers.

Next up is Update 1.1, the first large update that will introduce the Asteroid Impact disaster to the game, as well as a rework of the Crisis. This should make the Crisis less punishing for the Earth player if it’s unsuccessful.

If you want to help us test this new update, be sure to join our weekly community dev stream on Fridays, or join one of the many streamers that have received early access to this content. You can find these streams under Events tab and #livestreams channel on the official Discord.

Community requests

We were also overwhelmed by all the great feedback and suggestions we received since the launch. We’re currently gathering a list of all the requests, and setting priorities to integrate these changes into the game. It greatly helps us determine what players want to see added or changed, so please keep ‘em coming!

A few examples of improvements or suggestions from players we are currently looking at:

  • Game translation into other languages and subtitles

  • Twitch integration (so Twitch chat can collectively influence the game)

  • Mod support for players to create their own scenarios

  • (Adjustable) turn and notification timers

  • Skip function for news videos and items

  • Borderless windowed mode

  • And many more!

Meme contest: final winners!

Today we’re also announcing the final winners of the community meme contest!

A big congrats to Blue_Star, Raiking and Conradillac for taking home 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively! They will be awarded a free game key or be featured in-game in a custom news item, according to their choice. Congrats!
